THE “NATURAL” UNCONSCIOUS PROCESS 

HOW BELIEFS ARE INSTALLED IN OUR SYSTEM

During early life, thoughts and beliefs from our surrounding reality entered into our bodies and coloured the personality. As energies, they impressed us at cellular level and established automatic feedback circuits.

Nowhere is it more obvious that “time is an illusion” than in our emotional responses. Our bodies react to old stimuli instead of respond to present reality.

Our senses and faculties, stuck at early stages, continually distort perception. Attention is limited to external triggers. We calculate instead of feel. We define ourselves according to expectations and determine events by willpower, rather than flow with life.

 

THE TRADITIONAL “SOLUTION”

Our society deals with this condition by offering methods based on intellectual understanding, thought-replacement and affirmation, body techniques that build on physical sensation, emotional release that is relief oriented, and general distraction.

None of this offers lasting change; because early emotional programming remains in our physical system for the entire lifespan. We cannot erase or modify it.

All we can do is deactivate it by “alchemical means”. This is not as easy as thought because the gap between mental activity and the intelligence of Consciousness is qualitative. Access to the energies that constructed our limitations and fears is made only through the power of Consciousness beyond thinking or understanding

 

A WAY THROUGH AND BEYOND

In Primal Therapy training (a technique devised by Dr.Arthur Janov in the ‘60’s) I learned to go back in time in order to reveal and relive painful imprints. Some called it “The Primal Scream” therapy, but screaming only attempts to ward off the pain and prevents us from going deeply into the matrix where the nexus of feeling was originally forged.

I came to understand that what brings healing is not the force of violence that the early wounds provoke in us, or the resources we employ to disguise and “fix” them. No amount of emotional release or “understanding” will make a lasting difference. It is what happens beyond that.

Healing happens when we are able to reabsorb, integrate and re-channel the feeling intensity in which an emotional belief was forged. As in all healing, it is painful to work on an open wound.

 

THE IN-DEPTH ALCHEMICAL APPROACH:

It is a complete energetic process in which all your bodies must be involved. The emotional quality combined with the original verbal and visual context is fundamental.

A Guide:

RECOGNISING YOUR OWN BELIEFS

Begin by making a list of the beliefs that you hold. For women it concerns the beliefs about what she is or should be, many of which have negative connotations.

For example:                

Women are weak.

Women are too emotional.

Women need a man to complete them.

 

Once that list has been made, identify the thoughts that you have associated with that belief. How do they apply to you? How do you use them?

Don’t remain at the surface. Dig deeper.

 

Find the hidden associations, the root feelings and especially that root feeling-thought from which you are continually defending yourself. Undoubtedly there is a special area and the region has given fruit to various different expressions.

 

For example:             

I just can’t make it on my own!

The words don’t come out right!

I can’t put it into words.

I can’t live without “him” (another person)!

 

And there is more than one category. Work only on one at a time.

 

  1. PLACING THEM IN THE ORIGINAL CONTEXT AND ASSOCIATED FEELING

Associated to the beliefs, and in particular when you find the phrases that trigger it in you, become aware of how you feel, what emotions and memories are surfacing.

  • Who said them?
  • What happened when they were pronounced?
  • What effects did they produce? 

For example:             

I get tense and angry.

My mind doesn’t work properly.

I trip over myself…

 

  1. OBSERVATION AND REFINING OF THE PHRASES

Beware of limiting your observation to the labels you give it.

The mind is merely the container; it is what gave these impressions their form and continues to exacerbate them under the guise of “protecting” you. Mental content is meaningless without the physical and emotional energies that support it.

What is your physical reaction? How would you phrase that?

For example:             Behind the rage I find myself impotent and afraid.

                                    Behind the jealousy is my inadequacy.

                                    Nothing I will ever do is enough.

                                    People will take advantage of me.

                                    I am unworthy… (ugly, a monster, etc…)

 

Identifying the subconscious phrase is tantamount to hitting a painful chord.

Trace the hurtful phrases that you react to in the present and take them to a deeper plane. Follow the course of the emotions as they lead you to greater depth.

Don’t listen but rather feel. Do not stop to react.

Instead, continue going more deeply. Finding your phrases is already half the work.

Only you know what hurts and how deeply. Instead of warding off painful feeling, in Inner Alchemy you learn to embrace and transform it. It takes courage and no one can do it for you.

THE OBJECTIVE IS FINDING THE EMOTIONAL FREQUENCY THAT MATCHES THE EXACT THOUGHT IMPRINT.

It could be something someone said to you, something that you observed precociously, or even something that you said to yourself. It adjusted itself into a tailor-made belief for you. This is why the precise wording is so important.

 

  1. SUBLIMATION

What gives the thought-form its quality is its “emotional” force. You need to know what this is and how its energy differs from physical and mental ones.

For this, you need to discriminate the energetic movement and its effect in the physical body, the emotional body and the mental body.

This particular emotional frequency is attached to a text/phrase. It is deeply embedded in the emotional body within physical vitality and held there.

It may be altered (transmuted) only through “its own kind”. This means replacing it with another emotional “quality”.

It is “sublimation” in the alchemical sense.

This is core transformation or “transmutation”. Unless this happens, the original defensive mechanism continues to develop to outrageous and paranoid proportions and distorts our entire response to life.

Again, the basic work in Alchemy is the identification of the three types of energies we handle daily: physical, emotional and mental.

You distinguish the differences “in kind”; in other words without incurring in labels, meanings or purpose.

Feel the difference in the way you sense your body energies, in the way you feel when under the grip of some emotion, how your whole self responds to different kinds of thought. They are distinct energies.

Sense, feel, and exercise yourself in comparing and contrasting frequencies. This is the “A-B-C” of Inner Alchemy.

To properly distinguish the energies requires letting go of “evaluation” or “judgment” which only transforms emotional energy into mental energy.

Bear in mind that in exploring different sort of emotional frequencies, no energy quality is better than another. In Inner Alchemy, these are the ingredients that we work with.

What makes energy “negative” is the intent or meaning that we associate with it. Remember that basically anger is intensity, and fear is awareness.

 

Remove the labels and just feel what both anger and fear provoke in your body, mind and feelings. In the end, the voltage of the trigger-thought-form may be the same as the final conscious version, but its “quality” is another.

Thus what was rage (feeling offended, humiliated, etc.) can emerge as a deeply powerful, compassionate capacity (sensing what motivates and how others feel).

Merely understanding this will not produce the energy frequencies that you are now emanating with your whole body under the will of Consciousness.

 

Consciousness (beyond thought) is a much more powerful frequency that that of the thinking mind. Only Consciousness is capable of handling, transforming, and altering form at any level.

THE PRACTICE OF THE “INTROSPECTION”

The complete process described above is not easily accomplished. To master these energies and the discrimination required for sublimation requires constant practice.

Mastery is acquired through the practice of the short Introspection.

As you decompose a thought form into its parts (as per instructions), you must review/remember/relive the three kinds of energies (physical, emotional and mental).

Only when you have done so can you proceed to replace it with the conscious thought form constructed from the three “revised” energies. It now re-educates the body into new modalities of expression.

Please understand that it is not about meaning but about the quality of sensitivity that we inject into life that makes a difference. This sensibility is a quality of Truth. Truth is useful and constructive only if the intention and the manner in which it is transmitted is imbibed in Consciousness.

 

The memory of pain is not erased; it is part of valuable experience in learning energy management. But its force becomes “deactivated”; it no longer has the power to trigger off the series of negative, destructive mechanisms that blind us to Reality.

No one can do it for you because it is your own vitality and faculties that are involved in the construction of your world. Your mind offers collateral help; it is not the directing force. Consciousness is.
